Chargers Control the Paint in 83-59 Win over Rivier

NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 3, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team scored 46 points in the paint en route to an 83-59 victory over Rivier on Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-2. The Chargers will host Colby on Saturday at 4 p.m. Rivier falls to 2-6. The Raiders will play their sixth-straight road game on Saturday at MCLA with a 1 p.m. tip. The two teams will meet again on Feb. 12 in Nashua for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.

Senior Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) led all players with 19 points in 21 minutes on 7-12 shooting. He added six rebounds and two blocks. Bean moved up three spots on the all-time scoring list into 11th with 1334 points. First-year Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) notched his first collegiate double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds, while first-year Scott Lampron (Tilton, N.H.) contributed 12 points. Junior Nate Trevino (Boerne, Texas) chipped in eight points and 11 boards.

Colby-Sawyer grabbed the second most rebounds in a game in program history with 65. The Chargers outrebounded Rivier 65-33.

Rivier received 15 points from senior Josh L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) on 5-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Senior guard Issaiah Chappell (Sunapee, N.H.) made all eight of his free throws and finished with 13 points. First-year Chance Eason-Jones (Manchester, Conn.) grabbed a team best 10 rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer got out to a 10-4 lead, five minutes into the contest, after a Bean jumper at the top of the key. Rivier was able to keep the contest within a couple of possessions for the next several minutes before the Chargers a five-point spurt, capped by a Boone layup, to go on top 21-11.

The Raiders clawed back and cut the deficit to 30-26 after a trey from sophomore Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, Mass.) with 1:11 on the clock. Boone and Bean then took over and scored eight points for the Chargers, with a L'Heureux three-pointer sprinkled in for Rivier, to send Colby-Sawyer to the locker room ahead 38-29 at the break. Bean finished the half with 11 points.

The Chargers then used their size and rebounding ability in the second half to score 30 of the team's 45 points in the paint. Colby-Sawyer grabbed 37 rebounds in the frame and turned 15 offensive boards into 22 points.
