QUINCY, Mass. - March 30, 2019 - In a matchup of two new men's tennis members to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), Eastern Nazarene defeated Colby-Sawyer, 8-1.
Eastern Nazarene, which was selected as the unanimous preseason favorite, improves to 8-6 overall and 1-0 in conference action. Colby-Sawyer dips to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Chargers host Gordon on Thursday.
The Lions earned 8-3, 8-0 and 8-2 victories in doubles to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
Eastern Nazarene won singles matches in straight sets at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
The Chargers' lone singles point came from
Mike White at the second flight. He defeated Alberto Escobar 6-3 and 6-4.
At the top flight,
Alex Wright battled to three sets. After dropping the first to Henry Siercke 6-4, Wright evened the match with a convincing 6-0 victory in the second. With the team results already decided, the two played a super tie-breaker and Siercke came out on top 10-3.
