Men's Basketball Escapes with 95-92 Win at NVU-Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - December 10, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team came back from an 11-point halftime deficit to edge Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 95-92, in non-conference action Tuesday evening. 

Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-3. The Chargers will resume action on Jan. 3 with a two-day tournament hosted by Springfield College. Lyndon falls to 4-6. 

The Hornets attempted 52 three-pointers and made 22 (42.3%) to account for 66 points. Lyndon made just 12 two-point baskets in the game. Colby-Sawyer scored 54 points in the paint and turned 21 Lyndon turnovers into 32 points. 

Seniors Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) and Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) led the Chargers with 20 points apiece. Bean moved up a spot on the all-time scoring list to 10th with 1,370 points. Coffey also climbed the list and is now 15th with 1,306 points. First-year Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) poured in a season best 14 points. First-year Scott Lampron (Tilton, N.H.) tallied 10 points and five assists. 

Lyndon was paced by Zach Falkenberg's 20 points. Luke Fredsell registered 19 points and six assists. Damon Denteh was 5-of-10 from beyond the arc and finished with 18 points. Timothy Hoar grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. 

The Chargers trailed 51-40 at the half as Lyndon hit 10 three-pointers and held Colby-Sawyer to 38.6% from the floor. 

Lyndon continued to hold a comfortable lead (60-50) five minutes into the second half, but that is when Colby-Sawyer began its comeback. A 7-2 run, with five points coming from Caraballo, sparked the Colby-Sawyer offense and cut the deficit to five points. 

A Coffey layup finally pulled Colby-Sawyer even at 64-64 with 12:37 showing on the clock. 

The Hornets took a 79-77 lead with a Fredsell try at 6:08, but Colby-Sawyer responded with a 13-1 run, capped by a Caraballo layup, to give the Chargers an 88-80 lead with three minutes to play. 

Lyndon kept shooting the trey and made four to cut into the lead, but Coffey scored five points down the stretch to secure the 95-92 victory for the Chargers. 

Lyndon made 12 threes in the second half, but only two two-point buckets. The Chargers made 23 field goals and were more efficient. shooting at a 57.5% clip.
