NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 1, 2020 – Colby-Sawyer senior
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) made a turnaround jumper in the lane with four seconds to play to lift the Chargers by Anna Maria in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 9-10 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC. The Chargers travel to Emmanuel on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip with the Saints. Anna Maria falls to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The AMCATS play at Saint Joseph's (ME) on Tuesday also at 7 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer led by eight, 65-57, with less than seven minutes to play, but Anna Maria went on a 12-0 run to take a 69-65 lead with 4:29 left to go. The game see-sawed over the next couple of minutes with multiple ties and lead changes before the AMCATS went in front 76-75 with two free throws by freshman Jakai Alexandre (Fitchburg, Mass.) with 19 seconds.
On the ensuing possession, freshman
Jake Lorman (Rutland, Vt.) drove the lane and found Coffey just inside the free throw line. Coffey got up a turnaround jumper and swished in the game-winner. The AMCATS put up a desperation three as time expired, but the ball caromed off the back of the rim.
