Keene State Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Chargers, 88-73

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 27, 2020 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team dropped a non-conference tilt against Keene State, 88-73, on Monday evening at the David L. Coffin Field House.

Keene State improves to 6-12. The Owls resume Little East Conference action at home on Wednesday against Castleton with a 7:30 p.m. tip. Colby-Sawyer falls to 7-10. The Chargers continue a four-game homestand on Wednesday against Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Norwich at 7:30 p.m.

The Owls received game-highs of 21 points and 14 rebounds from freshman Jeff Hunter (Hudson, Mass.). He was 6-of-9 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Junior DeVon Beasley (Andover, Mass.) scored 18 points off the bench, while junior James Anozie (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) chipped in with 14 points and seven boards. Junior Sidi Diallo (Lowell, Mass.) rounded out the top scorers with 12 points.

Colby-Sawyer senior Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) registered 17 points. Freshman Kyle Landrigan (Madbury, N.H.) poured in a season-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Terrence Harvey Jr. (Smyrna, Ga.) posted 15 points, a career-high seven assists and four steals.  

The visitors took a 6-3 lead, two minutes into the contest, with four points coming from Anozie. Keene State pushed its lead to nine with 8:46 to play, but Colby-Sawyer chipped away and kept the contest within two possessions for the next several minutes. A Beasley trey then gave the Owls their biggest lead of the half, 38-28, with 2:17 left to play. The Chargers ended the half on an 8-0 run, with a couple of treys by Landrigan, to trail by only two at the break, 38-36. Harvery Jr. led the Chargers with 10 points in the frame, while Hunter and Beasley each had 10 for the Owls.

Keene State opened the second half with a 9-0 spurt and never looked back. The Chargers were able to get within a point on multiple occasions but could never get over the hump. With 1:43 left to play, Colby-Sawyer trailed 79-73 after a three-point play by Bean, but Keene State held the home team scoreless the rest of the way to secure an 88-73 victory.

Keene State held a 46-39 edge on the glass. The Owls finished shooting 51.9%, while Colby-Sawyer was 35% from the floor. Keene State went 26-of-39 from the free throw line and the Chargers made 11-of-12.
