Saint Joseph (CT) Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award
The Saint Joseph College Cross Country Team has been named to
the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCCA) national All-Academic Team as announced by
the association last week.
The All-Academic Team honor is the first the Blue Jays Cross
Country team as well as the first national academic recognition for
any of the eight SJC athletic teams. In order to be eligible
for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team an institution must have scored
at the NCAA Regional Championship as well as maintain a cumulative
team grade point average of 3.10 or higher.
Saint Joseph College was the one of just 18 institutions in New
England to garner the All-Academic Team honor and the only member
of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) to earn the
accolade.
As a team, the Blue Jays earned a GPA of 3.160 while finishing 44th
in the team scoring at the NCAA New England Regional Championships
in November. The 2008 Blue Jay Cross Country team was coached
by Kyle Fuller and consisted of seniors Helen Coffield (Franklin
Lakes, N.J.), Lourdes Navaro (West Hartford, Conn.), and Chelsea
Pysh (Wethersfield, Conn.), junior Ashley DeBella (Newington,
Conn.), sophomore Taryn Avery (Newington, Conn.), and first-years
Noelle Bellefluer (Bloomfield, Conn.), Caroline Kaminski
(Harwinton, Conn.), Ashley Kulas (Windsor Locks, Conn.), Sara Lore
(Norwood, Mass.), and Michelle Turro (Milford, Conn.).
