Saint Joseph (CT) Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award

The Saint Joseph College Cross Country Team has been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national All-Academic Team as announced by the association last week.

The All-Academic Team honor is the first the Blue Jays Cross Country team as well as the first national academic recognition for any of the eight SJC athletic teams.  In order to be eligible for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team an institution must have scored at the NCAA Regional Championship as well as maintain a cumulative team grade point average of 3.10 or higher.

Saint Joseph College was the one of just 18 institutions in New England to garner the All-Academic Team honor and the only member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) to earn the accolade.

As a team, the Blue Jays earned a GPA of 3.160 while finishing 44th in the team scoring at the NCAA New England Regional Championships in November.  The 2008 Blue Jay Cross Country team was coached by Kyle Fuller and consisted of seniors Helen Coffield (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), Lourdes Navaro (West Hartford, Conn.), and Chelsea Pysh (Wethersfield, Conn.), junior Ashley DeBella (Newington, Conn.), sophomore Taryn Avery (Newington, Conn.), and first-years Noelle Bellefluer (Bloomfield, Conn.), Caroline Kaminski (Harwinton, Conn.), Ashley Kulas (Windsor Locks, Conn.), Sara Lore (Norwood, Mass.), and Michelle Turro (Milford, Conn.).
