Simmons the Favorite at 2016 GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

Norwich selected to win GNAC Men’s
Invitational this weekend at Simmons

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College received all seven first-place votes and 49 points to take the top spot in the 2016 GNAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship poll, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches. The Sharks will be aiming for their 13th consecutive conference championship this weekend when they host the two-day event Saturday and Sunday at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium in Boston.

Norwich University received four first-place tallies and 24 points overall to lead the way on the men’s side, as the GNAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Invitational will also take place this weekend at Simmons.

Regis College, which will become a full GNAC member institution in 2017-18 and is an associate member in swimming & diving, finished second in the women’s poll with 40 points overall after finishing third a year ago. Saint Joseph’s College of Maine finished third with 30 points, followed by Norwich with 24 points, the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) with 22 points, Husson University with 18 points and Elms College with 13 points.

In the men’s poll, Regis took the second spot with 21 points and one lone first-place nod. Elms was third with 13 points, while Saint Joseph’s and Husson rounded it out with nine and eight points, respectively.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
