Host Simmons Named Favorite for GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

Two-day event to take
place Saturday-Sunday in Boston

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College, winners of 10 consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, has been selected as the favorite for this weekend's annual two-day event, as voted upon by the league's head coaches.

Norwich University topped the GNAC Men's Invitational coaches' poll, as the Cadets will look to make it four straight crowns at the meet, which will take place Saturday and Sunday, December 6-7, at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium in Boston, Mass. A live video stream of the action will be available at gnac.ezstream.com.

Simmons received all seven first-place nods in the voting for 49 points in the women's coaches' poll, as the Sharks will seek their 11th straight GNAC title and 13th in 14th years this weekend. A year ago, they topped the rest of the field by more than 100 points in the team standings.

Regis College finished second in the women's poll with 39 points, as the Pride swam to a third-place finish at GNACs last December.

The University of Saint Joseph (CT) received 28 points in the voting to take third place, narrowly ahead of fourth-place Elms College with 26 points and fifth-place Husson College with 24 points.

Rounding out the voting was Saint Joseph's College of Maine with 22 points and Norwich University with eight points.

Norwich garnered all five first-place votes in the men's poll, with Regis finishing second with 18 points. Making up the remainder of the voting was Elms with 16 points, Saint Joseph's (ME) with 11 points and Husson with five points.  

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
