Simmons Upsets Emmanuel To Take 2009 GNAC Women's Soccer Championship in Double-O.T.
The 5th-seeded Sharks of Simmons College pulled off a 2-1 double-overtime upset victory over the 2nd-seeded Saints of Emmanuel College to snag the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Soccer Championship. Rookie forward Lian Atturio (Hanover, Mass.) netted both goals for Simmons, including the game-winner, which came in the 117th minute.

The #5 seeded Simmons College Sharks will take on #2 seeded Emmanuel College Saints tomorrow, Saturday Nov. 7th at 12:30pm at the Saints’ Roberto Clemente Field .

2009 GNAC Women's Soccer Championship Final Set
#2 Seed Emmanuel College and #5 Seed Simmons College will compete in the 2009 GNAC Women's Soccer Championship. The match will be played on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 12:30 pm at the Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. The winner of the GNAC Championship will be awarded an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Will Pike (Men’s Soccer, St. Joseph’s (ME)) and Cait Witham (Women’s Soccer, St. Joseph’s (CT)) were named Goalkeepers of the Week.

One point separated the top two teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Preseason Women’s Soccer Coaches Poll with the Monks of Saint Joseph’s being tabbed as the favorite to win the GNAC in a vote by the conference coaches.

Pine Manor’s Kayla Nielsen Named GNAC Sportswoman of the Year
Pine Manor College soccer and softball player Kayla Nielsen was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Sportswoman of the Year, the league announced Wednesday, lauding the freshman for her respect and integrity on and off her fields of play.
