GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 2

(FOR THE WEEK OF NOV. 12-18)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - Cambridge, Mass.)

Ramirez-Tejeda took over the 35th Annual Emmanuel Tip-Off Classic, averaging 35.0 points and 18.0 rebounds to lift the Saints to the program's first victory in their opening tourney since the 2013 season. The junior shot an incredible 77.3% (34-44 FG) for the week. She started the weekend with career highs of 28 points and 16 rebounds in a 96-63 victory over Gallaudet before following that up with new career-highs of 42 points and 20 rebounds in a 102-89 win over Westfield State. She added five assists and five steals versus Westfield State en route to Tournament MVP honors.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Loredana D'Agostino, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr, F - Broad Brook, Conn.)

D'Agostino averaged 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Emmanuel to help the Saints capture the EC Tip-Off Classic for the first time in five years. D'Agostino, who shot 61.1% overall (11-18 FG, 7-7FT). played a big role in the 102-89 tourney title win over Westfield State, scoring 21 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. 


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL
Shyla Osmond, Albertus Magnus
(Jr., G - New Haven, Conn.) - Osmond averaged 22.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 51.9% (27-52 FG) from the field to help the Falcons to a 3-0 week.

Lexie Hamilton, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, G - Sunapee, N.H.) - Hamilton averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Chargers. The junior began the week with 20 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in a 68-65 win over Colby, making crucial baskets down the stretch and knocking down all six free throw attempts in the fourth in the comeback win. Hamilton then added 16 points, six assists and five rebounds in a loss at No. 2 nationally-ranked Bowdoin. She moved up to sixth on Colby-Sawyer's all-time list in career assists with 361.

Maddie McLaughlin, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - Westerly, R.I.) - McLaughlin set the Emmanuel program record with 17 assists in the Saints 102-89 victory over Westfield State in the 35th Annual EC Tip-Off Classic and finished the weekend by averaging 8.5 points and 10.5 assists in a 2-0 week.

Britney Gallagher, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., G - New City, N.Y.) - Averaged 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week and scored a career-high 20 points with six boards in a win over USJ.

Emily Oliver, Norwich (Sr., G - Sagamore Hills, Ohio) - Oliver averaged 13.7 points and 7.0 rebounds in a 1-2 week, highlighted by a 21-point, five-rebond effort in Norwich's win over Salve Regina. A two-sport standout, Oliver was also named a 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Volleyball selection last Thursday.

Kelsi McNamara, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sr, G - West Newbury, Mass.) - McNamara scored 22 points with five assists and four steals and shot 61.5% (8-13 FG, 3-6 3PT, 3-3 FT) overall in an 87-50 win over Thomas on Tuesday. With the point output she became the sixth player in team history to reach the 1,500 career-point plateau.

Rebekah Carroll, Simmons (Senior, G - Londonderry, N.H.) - In two games, the senior averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game and shot 41.7% (5-12) from three-point range. 

Alexis Hackett, Suffolk (Jr., G - Charlton, Mass.) - Hackett double-doubled twice in a 3-1 week, averaging 14.0 points on 56.3% (18-32 FG, 6-10 3PT, 16-21 FT) to go with 13.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 blocks.
