GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 1

(FOR THE WEEK OF NOV. 8-11)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tianna Sugars, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, C - Oxford, Maine)

Sugars led the Chargers to a win in the season opener with game-highs of 18 points and 16 rebounds. The junior shot 50% (8-16 FG) from the floor to go with five steals and three blocks in Colby-Sawyer's 74-47 win over SUNY Delhi. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Mary Casamassa, Norwich (Fr., G/F - Wexford, Pa.) 

Notched a 15 point, 10 rebound double-double in collegiate debut at Plattsburgh. 


WEEK 1 HONOR ROLL
Kelsi McNamara, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, G - West Newbury, Mass.) - McNamara averaged 23.5 points, 3.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals while shooting 41.2% (14-34 FG, 6-16 3PT) to help the Monks claim the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament Championship over the weekend. The senior guard netted 25 points in a lopsided win over Eastern Nazarene on Friday and added 22 points in the championship win over Framingham State on Saturday. She shot 92.9% (13-14) from the FT line in the two games. 

Cassandra Stapelfeld, Simmons (Sophomore, G - Brookline, N.H.) - The sophomore scored 18 points -- the most by a player in her Simmons debut in known school history -- and added five rebounds and two steals in a loss versus MIT on Thursday. 

Jenni-Rose DiCecco, Suffolk (So., G - Falmouth, Mass.) - The 2017-18 GNAC Rookie of the Year scored 22 points (8-20 FG, 3-10 3PT) to go with five rebounds and five assists in a 66-58 setback against Western New England.
