An Unsung Coach Hears Through The Noise Of A Black Athlete's Dream

An Unsung Coach Hears through the Noise of a Black Athlete’s Dream is an inspiring true story as told by Tony Price.

Tony Price is the Assistant Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Simmons College, Boston, Massachusetts.  He got his start into coaching through his concern for the young people in underserved communities.  Realizing that someone had to step up and make a difference, he organized a co-ed youth basketball league in one of Boston’s toughest neighborhoods.  The league served as a catalyst for positive change bringing together young people and adults across territorial lines.  In the fall of 2007 Coach Price was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame for his distinguished basketball career at his Alma mater.

Tony Price has written An Unsung Coach in order to inspire and encourage others to explore the many options and avenues within the sports industry. He has made it a concerted point to introduce the notion to young people (of all races) that black coaches are just as competent and knowledgeable as their white counterparts and to be receptive to the concept that there is nothing inferior about black leadership.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware and raised in the Boston/Roxbury’s Mission Hill Housing Projects, Tony Price is no stranger to pursuing his dreams.  Ever since his childhood, he has been a sports enthusiast and an athlete.  He attributes much of his success today to his love of sports.  Coupled with good parenting and his strong faith in God, Tony managed to raise the bar on his potential to overcome the odds of so many other young people who grew up in the projects.

According to Coach Price, “I wrote An Unsung Coach Hears through the Voice of a Black Athlete’s Dream to inspire those interested in reaching their goals and living their dreams.”

Tony Price learned at a very young age, that if he didn’t know something he could do one of two things: wait and hopefully someone would explain it or show it to him, or he could be pro-active and educate himself using the resources that were available. He learned how to play the game of basketball with a milk crate when there was no coach or adult who taught him and his friends how to play the game. He is convinced that had he waited on someone to discover his talents, he may never have experienced all that playing this sport has brought him.

An Unsung Coach is a collection of experiences gathered and shared, designed to motivate you to reach beyond your comfort zone, but to do so armed with valuable knowledge and perspective.  The vehicle used by Tony Price to convey the message is sports and the occupation of coaching.  But many of the concepts, ideas, and opinions shared are applicable to any field or career path. The information shared throughout the book includes actual strategies and philosophies that Coach Price has exercised to get where he is today.
