WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kerry Fleming, Simmons (Sr., Northampton, Mass.)
The senior was the only Simmons swimmer to medal in seven events at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association Championship from February 21-24 in Cambridge, Mass. The swimmer earned five gold medals, including a pair of individual efforts. Fleming won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.26 and placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal-record time of 1:55.79. The four-year standout just missed her third gold when she finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 53.07. Fleming helped the Sharks shatter the NEISDA Championship and Open record as well as the school standard in the 800-yard freestyle relay by more than five seconds with a time of 7:40.31. The relay win was the first of three freestyle relay victories that Fleming was a part of. She also helped Simmons win the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay with respective times of 1:38.12 and 3:33.40. Fleming also earned a bronze medal, helping the Sharks place third in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:05.15.
