Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Report - Week 6

Player of the Week
Taylor Gardner (Orangeburg, N.Y.), Senior, P/2B/DH, Johnson & Wales University 
Gardner helped lead JWU to a 7-1 record on the week, hitting .552 with 12 runs and 11 RBI. The Orangeburg, New York native reached base safely in all eight games with five multi-hit games on the week. Gardner had three games with three hits, including a 6-for-8 performance with five runs and four RBI in the double-header sweep of UMass Dartmouth. The senior hurler was also dominant in the pitching circle, going 5-0 with a 0.68 ERA in 31 innings pitched. Gardner allowed 16 hits, one walk and struck out 35 to round off the week.

Pitcher of the Week
Danielle Cicosta (Feeding Hills, Mass.), Sophomore, Pitcher, University of Saint Joseph (CT)
Cicosta made four appearances during an 8-0 week for the Blue Jays and went 3-0 with a save and a 0.35 ERA, all in conference play. In 20 innings, she allowed nine hits, five walks and struck out 20. She pitched her first two collegiate shutouts, both two-hitters over Rivier and Lasell. Cicosta also batted .316 (6-for-19) on the week with five RBIs and four runs scored. 

Rookie of the Week
Amanda Jessey (East Haven, Conn.), Freshman, IF, Albertus Magnus College 
Jessey hit .344 on the week with 11 hits, 10 runs scored and three doubles. The East Haven, Connecticut native also added seven RBI and seven stolen bases with a .438 slugging percentage on the week.
