
Ferreira, Kluna Earn Regional Weekly Honors
Suffolk senior Jess Ferreira was named New England Region Player
of the Week and Saint Joseph’s freshmen Madylan Kluna was
selected New England Region Pitcher of the Week from DIII Softball
Newsletter for the week of April 5th.
Ferreira collected her 200th career hit on Sunday, April 5th
afternoon in game one of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference
double header against Norwich University. Ferreria went 3-4 in the
game, including a home run to lead the Rams to a 7-4 victory over
the Cadets. Ferreira reached the career mark with an RBI single in
the fifth inning, her third hit of the contest, and 32nd hit of the
2009 season.
Kluna was 2-0 with 14 K's in 15 innings for St. Joe's last week.
The freshman earned the extra-inning victory over Rivier 4/4 with
six strikeouts and five hits allowed in eight innings and tossed a
shutout against JWU, fanning eight and allowing three hits in seven
innings, on April 5th. Through 28 games for Saint Joseph's, Kluna
has posted a 5-5 record with 40 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings
pitched. In 13 appearances in the circle, the rookie hurler has
held opposing hitters to a .242 batting average. She also recorded
her first collegiate save in a 9-6 victory over Suffolk University
on April 11th.
