Farago, Tuthill, and Leverone Named ECAC Softball All-Stars
Three GNAC softball players have been selected as 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Softball All-Stars. Emerson junior outfielder Bridget Fargo was named to the ECAC First Team, while Emerson freshmen pitcher Kelsey Tuthill and St. Josephs (ME) first-year player Emily Leverone were selected to the Second Team.

Jess Ferreira Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America
Suffolk University Softball senior shortstop Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) was named to the 2009 Lousiville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American. Ferreira was a third team selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). This marks the second time in her four-year career that Ferreira has received this honor, as she was also named an All-American in her freshman campaign in 2006.

Three GNAC Softball Players Named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District Teams
Three Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball student-athletes earned recognition for their performance in the classroom as well as the athletic field this spring. Emerson junior outfielder Bridget Farago (Oneonta, NY), Suffolk sophomore infielder Monica Cioffi (Easton Boston, MA), and St. Joes (ME) sophomore infielder Alyssa Dunn (Standish, ME) were both named to ESPN the Magazines Academic All-District teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Emerson Falls Short on Third Day of NCAA Tournament Play
Emerson College was eliminated on Saturday morning from the NCAA Regional Tournament action in Beverly, MA. The Lions fell to Tufts on Friday afternoon 3-1 in nine innings and were eliminated from the tournament on a 1-0 loss to Rhode Island College on Saturday morning. Emerson finishes the season with an overall record of 33-11.

Lions Grand Slam Powers Emerson Past Endicott
Emerson's Nikki Battaglia (Freehold, N.J.) turned on a full-count offering in the top of the second inning, launching a grand slam over the left field wall to help lift the fifth-seeded Lions to a 5-1 win over fourth-seeded Endicott in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The win moves Emerson into a Friday match-up with top-seeded Tufts University, while Endicott will now meet Husson in a loser's bracket game on the same day.

Five GNAC Players Named To NFCA All-Northeast Region Softball Team
The GNAC had five players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region Softball Team. Suffolk senior shortstop Jess Ferreria, the 2009 GNAC Player of the Year, Emerson freshmen pitcher Kelsey Tuthill, the 2009 GNAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, and Emerson junior outfielder Bridget Farago were all selected to the Northeast Region First-Team.

Panthers Nip Lady Monks in First Round of ECAC's
Sixth-seeded Plymouth State (23-17) defeated #3 Saint Joseph's (29-14), 2-1, in the first, and single elimination, round of ECAC Championship Tournament play on Wednesday afternoon at Ward Park. Lady Monks starter Kiera Walsh '11 (Benton, ME) allowed six hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts in the loss and closes her season with an 11-5 record. Ashley Geel '12 (St. George, ME) knocked home the lone SJC run with a double in the fourth inning.

Lions Named to NCAA Softball New England Regional
Emerson College has been named the fifth seed in the New England Region for the NCAA Division III Championship Softball Tournament. The Lions (32-9) will take on the host school, fourth seeded Endicott College (37-7) at 12 noon on Thursday, May 7 in Beverly, Mass. The game will be the second of four Thursday first round games in the double-elimination tournament.

St. Joe's Selected as Third Seed in 2009 ECAC Division III New England Softball Championship
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2009 tournament seedings, and Saint Joseph's College (29-13) has been selected as the third seed for the upcoming ECAC Division III New England Softball Championship. The Lady Monks will host #6 Plymouth State (22-16) on Wednesday at 4:00 PM in a seven inning first round contest at Ward Park.

Emerson Claims 2009 GNAC Softball Championship
Bridget Farago (Jr., Oneonta, N.Y.) delivered a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Jilisa, Rawding (So., Tewksbury, Mass.) and give Emerson College a come from behind 2-1 victory over St. Joseph's College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament. The win gives the Lions (32-7) their second GNAC Championship in the past three seasons and qualifies Emerson for the NCAA Divisoin III Championship Tournament that begins May 9 at a site to be determined.

Ferreira Reaches 200 Career Hit Plateau
Senior Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) collected her 200th career hit on Sunday afternoon in game one of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference double header against Norwich University. Ferreria went 3-4 in the game, including a home run to lead the Rams to a 7-4 victory over the Cadets. Ferreira reached the career mark with an RBI single in the fifth inning, her third hit of the contest, and 32nd hit of the 2009 season.

Emerson College (15-5) softball was ranked 4th in the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association poll released April 1, 2009, while Saint Joseph's College (ME)(10-6) was ranked 10th.

Rivier Softball Picked #1 in GNAC Preseason Poll
Defending GNAC tournament champion Rivier has been chosen as the softball preseason favorite of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in a vote conducted by the leagues coaches. The Raiders, who went 16-10 in conference play and 25-14 overall last season to earn the GNAC conference title, received 11 first place votes and a total of 167 points in the GNAC softball preseason poll. Leading the way for the Raiders is preseason All-American second team selection, junior pitcher Monica White. White is a two-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Year and was named the 2008 conference tournament MVP. Monica was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after leading the Raiders to the college's first-ever National Tournament victory.
