
Rivier Advances To NECVA Quarterfinal
Nationally-ranked No. 3 and top-seeded Rivier College won its 30th consecutive match and defeated No. 16 seeded Hunter College, 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-28), in the first round of the 2009 North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament on Friday at MIT’s Rockwell Cage. With the win, the Raiders improved to 33-1 on the year and will take on Baruch College in quarterfinal action on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m.
Rivier registered a .351 team hitting percentage to go along
with a balanced attack. Matt FerreiraScott Wright posted 12 kills,
a .562 percentage, two aces, and two blocks. Austin Soucy
contributed 10 kills and two aces while Andrew Corwin anchored the
defense with eight digs. Zach Hansen finished the day with 39
assists and three blocks. led the way with 13 kills, a .522 hitting
performance, and five blocks as
Wojciech Jakubiak paced Hunter with 13 kills and 10 digs as Jerin
Kallickal tallied 10 kills, a .412 hitting percentage, eight digs,
and two blocks. Shandu Foster notched 10 kills and two blocks while
Zacarias Ripoll distributed 40 assists.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on Saturday,
April 4, beginning at 11 a.m. at Rockwell Cage and duPont
Gymnasium, on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA. The championship final is at 1
p.m. on April 5.
