Rivier's Zach Hansen Named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Mens National Player of the Week
For the second consecutive week, a Rivier Men's Volleyball player has been named National Player of the Week. This marks the first time in school history that national honors have been received in consecutive weeks.
Zach Hansen, a 6-2 junior setter
for then-No. 10 Rivier College, has been named the
Sports Imports Division III Men’s National Player of the
Week. He earned
the award after leading his team to four wins last week, which
included
victories over two Division III-ranked opponents and one Division
I opponent.
In the Raiders’ first win,
a sweep of Johnson & Wales, Hansen had 31
assists in leading his team to a .412 hitting percentage. He also
had nine digs
and one block assist in the win. In Rivier’s next match, a
3-1 upset over
then-No. 7 Ramapo, Hansen scored his first of two double-doubles
on the week,
dishing out 53 assists and getting 12 digs, while also adding two
aces, two
solo blocks and one block assist. He followed that performance up
with a
31-assist, nine-dig performance in the Raiders 3-0 win over
then-No. 14
Philadelphia Biblical, and closed out the week with his second
double-double,
in which he handed out 47 assists and picked up 11 digs. He also
had one ace
and two block assists in the win. For those four matches, Hansen
averaged 11.57
assists and 2.93 digs per game, while guiding his team to a .319
hitting
percentage.
This honor marks the second time
Hansen has earned Sports Imports
Division III Men’s National Player of the Week honors. He
last received
the award on Feb. 18, 2008. This is also the second consecutive
week, and the
ninth time overall, that an athlete from Rivier receives the
award. Senior
middle blocker Matt Ferreira earned the award last week. Rivier is
coached by Craig
Kolek.
