Rivier's Matt Ferreira Named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Mens National Player of the Week
Matt Ferreira, a 6-6 junior middle blocker for then-No. 11 Rivier College, has been named the Sports Imports Division III Men’s National Player of the Week. Ferreira led the Raiders to three wins last weekend in the Carthage/Milwaukee School of Engineering Wisconsin Classic. He started the event on fire with a 20-kill, nine-block, three-dig performance, hitting .548, in four games against Medaille College. Later that day, he tallied 11 more kills on a .500 hitting percentage, and added two blocks in a sweep of MSOE. Ferreira followed up his opening act the next day by tallying 11 more kills, while hitting .500 again, and totaling five more blocks in a sweep of Baruch College. He finished out the weekend with 18 kills and four blocks against then-No. 6 Carthage in a five-game thriller that ended 15-13 in the final frame. Ferreira finished the Classic averaging four kills and 1.33 blocks per game, and hit .481. This honor marks the eighth time a player from Rivier has received the Sports Imports Division III Men’s National Player of the Week award, and is the first for Ferreira. The Raiders are coached by Craig Kolek.
