Ramapo Captures 2014 GNAC Men's Tennis Championship

Franklin Lakes, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's tennis team won its second straight GNAC Championship tonight over Suffolk University, 5-1, at the Franklin Lakes Racquet Club.

Weather forced the match-up between the GNAC North Champions, Suffolk University, and South Champions, Ramapo College, indoor at the neutral Franklin Lakes Racquet Club, where Ramapo was crowned the overall GNAC Champions for the second straight year.

The Roadrunners posted the 5-1 victory to finish the year at 12-4 overall, while Suffolk wraps up the season standing at 9-3.

Justin Gerstl opened the match for Ramapo at first singles where he posted a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Calixto Romero, before teaming up with Evan Clayton at first doubles, earning a 9-7 win over the Suffolk pair of Romero and Marc Winkler.  Clayton played Winkler to a 5-5 tie at second singles, before the match-up was halted as the winner was already determined.  At third singles, Jacob Khodakov went 2-6 with Drew Reilly, and Justin Bevilacqua went to 2-1 over Aaron Lau at fourth singles.  Miles Murphy and John Seaman posted wins at fifth and sixth singles respectively.  Murphy went 6-3, 6-2 over Vassilli Stroganov and Seaman posted a 6-1, 6-2 win in the final single spot over Francesco Saia.

In doubles action, Khodakov and Bevilacqua fell short to Lau and Reilly, 7-9 at second doubles, giving Suffolk their lone point of the match.  Seaman and Miles wrapped up the doubles action with an 8-3 victory, defeating Stroganov and Saia.

Ramapo's Murphy was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, while the All-Tournament Team consisted of Ramapo'sJustin Gerstl and Evan Clayton, Suffolk's Drew Reilly and Marc Winkler, Rutgers Newark's Raymond Postadan, and Johnson and Wales' Andre Barbero.
