GNAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 3

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 10-16)

PLAYER / ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Bienfait Badibanga, Norwich (Fr., F - Burlington, Vt.)

Badibanga scored his first collegiate hat trick to account for all of Norwich's offense in a 3-1 win over Albertus Magnus on Wednesday as part of a 2-0 week. Badibanga scored the game-winning goal with his second strike of the game to lead the Cadets' offense in their win over the Falcons. 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Tom Bennett, Suffolk (Fr., GK - Minnetonka, Minn.)

In his first collegiate start, picked up his first college win with a four-save effort in a 3-1 win over Lasell. Over the week, he defended Suffolk's net for 102 minutes and put together a 0.88 goals-against average and a .833 save percentage, stopping five of six shots.


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL

Ryan Kresco, Colby-Sawyer
 (Fr, F - Moultonborough, N.H.) - Kresco notched his first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game-winner, in the team's 5-1 GNAC victory over Suffolk. He added a second goal later in the match. 

Robert Danielian, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr, F - Watertown, Mass.) - Danielian helped Emmanuel pick up its first GNAC victory of the season, netting a pair of goals in the Saints 3-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer in a 1-1-1 week overall for the Saints.

Carter Migre, Lasell (Sr., D - Halifax, Mass.) - Scored two goals in Lasell's 1-1 week, including an overtime game-winner. Both of his goals came in Thursday's non-conference 4-3 double-overtime win over Eastern Nazarene. 

Ken Niyonzima, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., M/F - Dracut, Mass.) - Niyonzima scored the game-winning goal as Regis defeated Emmanuel on the road for its first GNAC victory of the season. It was one of Regis's few scoring chances in the match, and he converted in the 69th minute. 

Daniel Castro, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., F - Willimantic, Conn.) - Castro registered five points (2 G, 1 A) in a 2-0 week for the Blue Jays including a 2-1 victory over Regis (Mass.) to help USJ to its first-ever men's GNAC win in school history. Castro factored in both games on the week assisting on the first goal in the 26th minute in a 3-1 triumph over Fisher at home on Tuesday.

Jesse Ramirez, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, F - Dumont, N.J.) - Ramirez came up big for the Monks versus Johnson & Wales on Saturday, registering a goal and an assist in a crucial 3-1 victory over the Wildcats. 

Austin Ward, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Fr, M - North Andover, Mass.) - Ward tallied two goals and an assist in a 2-0 conference week for the Monks. The freshman midfielder scored twice in a win over Rivier on Wednesday and registered an assist in a 3-1 triumph over Johnson & Wales on Saturday.

James Fisher, Suffolk (Jr., F - Longmeadow, Mass.) - Fisher scored a pair of goals in in a 2:06 minute span to help Suffolk take down Lasell, 3-1, Saturday afternoon. The two-goal effort matched a career high for the junior.
