NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell College Director of Athletics Kristy Walter is pleased to announce the hire of Michael Haynes as the new head men's soccer coach.

"I am very excited for the future of our men's soccer program under the direction of Coach Haynes," said Walter. "I believe that his character combined with his extensive and diverse coaching experience make him a great fit for our institution."

A native of West Indies, Barbados, Haynes joins Lasell with a wealth of both playing and coaching experience. Haynes was a national player on the Barbados National Team in '71, and made a solid impact in the following years as a five-year member of the Boston Internationals in the Mass Soccer League. Amidst his time with the Internationals, Haynes was also selected to the First Mass Olympic Development Team.

Haynes joins the Lasell coaching staff after having spent the past 10 years as the boys' varsity soccer head coach at Matignon High School in Cambridge, Mass.  Haynes led the Warriors to three Catholic Central League Championship titles in '08, '11, and '12. Prior to his stint with the Warriors, Haynes was the head boys coach at Beaver Country Day School from '97-'05, where he steered the Beavers to four New England Prep School Athletic Conference Championships, nine league titles, and three unbeaten seasons. In 2000, he was voted NSCAA Coach of the Year for Prep Schools. In 2013, Haynes was inducted into the Beaver Country Day School Hall of Fame.

Haynes jumps back into the realm of collegiate coaching after serving as the Emerson College men's soccer assistant in '95-'96, when the Lions competed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

The Lasell community, as well as head women's soccer coach Vito LaFrancesca, is pleased to welcome Haynes into the Laser family. LaFrancesca, a former coworker of Haynes back in the Beaver County Days, commented, "Mike is going to be great for the program. He is a great coach, a great recruiter, and a great mentor."

Haynes also coaches or has coached a number of different club soccer programs, including the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program, Mass Arsenal Soccer Program, F.C. Greater Boston, and Boston Lightning, and Black Spurs.

Haynes is a '70 graduate of Dale Carnegie Institute, and completed his N.E.S. of Mechanical Dentistry in '73. Haynes and his family currently reside in Medford, Mass.
