GNAC announces 2014 All-Conference Teams

WINTHROP, Mass. – Johnson & Wales University senior forward O’Kyle Corridon has been named the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, as the GNAC office announced its All-Conference Teams on Monday morning.

As voted upon by the league’s 12 head coaches, Corridon helped lead the Wildcats to the GNAC regular-season and tournament title this fall, and is second among conference leaders in both goals (14) and points (32).

Corridon also earned First Team All-Conference honors, as did three of his teammates in senior midfielder Kyle Metz, sophomore back Devin Walshe and senior goalkeeper Ryan Dzierzawski.

Norwich University junior back Christian Albrecht received 2014 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, as he helped anchor a Cadets’ defense that allowed just 24 goals in 21 games played. Albrecht started every game on the backline this fall for Norwich.

Albrecht was one of three Cadets honored on the First Team, joining senior midfielder Chris Bristol and sophomore forward Jacob Zimmerman, who led the GNAC with 17 goals and 37 points.

Lasell College freshman Newton Jordao was named the 2014 GNAC Rookie of the Year, as the first-year midfielder registered three goals and tied for seventh in the league with six assists for 12 points. Jordao, who also received Third Team recognition, helped lead the Lasers to the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament, as did junior forward Conor Fitzgerald and senior back Patrick McCarthy, both of whom were named to the First Team by the GNAC head coaches.

Also receiving First Team honors was Albertus Magnus College senior midfielder Lindsley Barrett and Mount Ida College junior midfielder Carlos Martinez.

Johnson & Wales second-year head coach Dave Kulik was named the GNAC Coach of the Year following a vote among his peers, as Kulik has guided the Wildcats 15-5-1 overall record and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Johnson & Wales also allowed just four goals in its nine regular-season conference contests.

Rivier University received the 2014 GNAC Men’s Soccer Institutional Sportsmanship Award.
