Norwich Men's Soccer Advances to NCAA Regional Final
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Rob Harlow scored the lone goal of the game off a feed from Jake Yaris early in the second half to propel the Norwich University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Clark. The Cadets now advance to face Middlebury in the NCAA Regional on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m.
Norwich had some solid chances in the first half, but the Cadets could not beat Clark goalkeeper Peter Wise. Jason Grupp saw his header go just wide after a nice service from the corner late in the opening half. Clark had an opportunity of its own with just a few minutes remaining in the half as Baran Doenmez ripped a shot from eight yards out that hit the side of the net.
Norwich (18-2-1) finally broke through in the 52nd minute as Jake Yaris played a nice through pass to Harlow, who blasted a shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Moments later, the Cadets had a golden opportunity to open a 2-0 edge, but Grupp's header caromed off the crossbar.
Clark (11-5-2) came on strong in the final five minutes, with a few opportunities to tie the game. Ultimately, though, NU goalkeeper Charles Maxwell and the Cadet defense hung on for the victory.
Maxwell finished the day with three saves for his sixth shutout of the season. Wise made four stops for Clark in the losing effort.
Norwich outshot Clark, 17-11, while Clark held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
