BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse program recently participated in a campaign to raise money and awareness for cancer research through the HEADstrong Foundation, raising $7,506 as a team dollars during the 10 day drive.

The HEADstrong Foundation was established in 2006 by former Division I scholarship athlete Nicholas Colleluori of the Hofstra Men's Lacrosse program. Colleluori was diagnosed in 2005 with large B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and passed away in 2006 at the age of 21, but not before inspiring others to carry on his vision to help other individuals like him through the HEADstrong Foundation.

Since 2007, the HEADstrong Foundation has raised more than $8,000,000 dollars and supported more than 12,500 cancer patients and their families.

"I honestly could not be prouder of every single member of this team and additionally, thankful that we have the amazing support of family and friends to step up," said Emmanuel College Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Brendan McWilliams. "What an AMAZING job and this is exactly the sort of program that I could not be prouder to be involved with as a head coach, so THANK YOU to each and every one of you."

The team set an initial fundraising goal of $1,000 and hit that mark in less than 24 hours. The Saints' campaign was ranked in the Top 10 on the HEADstrong Foundation's website for ongoing campaigns.

"The entire Emmanuel Athletic Department is so proud of the work that Coach McWilliams, his players and coaching staff put into raising such an incredible amount of money for the HEADstrong Foundation," said Director of Athletics and Recreation, Alexis Mastronardi. "To have the Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse Team ranked among the top programs for dollars raised to fight this insidious battle truly speaks to the squad's remarkable fundraising efforts over the past couple weeks.  Having a team and coaching staff make time mid-season to work toward something so special is a tribute to the Saints Men's Lacrosse program and its big-picture goals."
