DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth golf team will host its annual Westport Hampton Inn Invitational on April 7-8 at Allendale Country Club in Dartmouth and invites the community to join in supporting local student-athlete DJ Bishop.

UMass Dartmouth Golf, along with the 18 participating teams, will be donating to Bishop and his family. Last year, Bishop, a Westfield State baseball student-athlete and Dartmouth High School graduate, suffered a severe spinal cord injury in a diving accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Since then, Bishop has overcome many hurdles in his road to recovery but still faces obstacles with physical therapy and workouts.

The Corsairs will kick off fundraising with a $500 flat donation, and several teams intend to pledge donations and amounts per birdie stroke for the tournament (for example, $5 per birdie and 50 birdies for the tournament would equal a $250 donation). Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to join in #BirdiesforBishop, or pledge a flat donation.

Businesses/individuals interested in pledging may contact UMass Dartmouth head golf coach Joel Baptista at 508-789-2824 or via email at jbaptista@umassd.edu. Checks can be made out to Sue Bishop and sent directly to:
