Albertus Magnus Men's Basketball Ranked Nationally in Two Preseason Polls

Ljuljdjuraj named Sporting News Preseason
All-American, Davis an Honorable Mention

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team has been ranked in the top-10 nationally in two different 2014-15 preseason polls.  Sporting News has the Falcons ranked No. 6 in its Division III top-10, while D3hoops.com has ranked Albertus eighth in its preseason Top-25.

The Falcons' finished the 2013-14 season ranked 12th in the nation on the D3hoops.com top-25 poll, which stood as the team's best ranking in program history until Thursday's announcement.

Albertus made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 last season and won its third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament title.  The Falcons return a handful of starters after the graduation of All-American Darius Watson, and look to remain competitive among the top teams in the country.

The Falcons open the 2014-15 season on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Stockton College Tournament against Lyndon State.

The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.

Just as well, Albertus Magnus men’s basketball standout Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has been named a 2014-15 Sporting News Preseason All-American, as the senior was selected to the Second Team. Classmate Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was tagged as a Preseason Honorable Mention.

Ljuljdjuraj led the Falcons with 10.7 rebounds per game in 2013-14 to go along with 15.9 points per contest.  He was named the 2014 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and named to the GNAC’s All-Conference First Team. 

Additionally, he was named to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Fourth Team and the GNAC All-Tournament Team last season.

Davis, who was named to the GNAC All-Tournament Team and GNAC All-Conference First Team last season, was tagged as a Sporting News honorable mention for the first time in his career. Last season he averaged 15.8 points and 7.7 assists per contest for the Falcons.
