Seniors Will Be Missed

By Nicholas Dubay

GNAC Correspondent, Lasell College

This past week the Lasell men’s basketball team saw their chances at making the NCAA tournament come to an end and so did the careers of four seniors, Jose Guitian, Brad Caravoulias, Junior Sainval, and Kevin Fallon. Despite losing, the season was not a complete failure for these four.  All the guys played very important rolls and had their time to shine. If you go all the way back to the first game of the year when Sainvals 23 points and 7 three pointers was enough to upset the 9th ranked team in the nation Brandeis.  When the Lasers clinched the first seed in the conference Fallon had his best game of the year hitting 3 three pointers and scoring 13 points.  Caravoulias was there all year when Lasell needed him.  He scored his 1,000th career point half way through the year at Rivier, was selected to the all conference 2nd team and averaged over 14 points a game.  Caravoulias was a threat against each team because of his ability to knock down the three-pointer.  He always played his heart out and gave everything he could; if Lasell needed a three they would turn to him.  He never backed down and was always ready to step up when called upon.  Finally there was Guitian.  Guitian had the most outstanding career anyone has ever had at Lasell.  This year he surpassed the 1,500 point mark, becoming the schools all time leading scorer, and also became the first individual in the history of Lasell to collect over 1,000 rebounds.  He was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, a first-team all-conference selection and leads the league in scoring (24.1), rebounds (13.5), and blocked shots (2.3), Guitian is also making a mark nationally where he is ranked second for rebounding, seventh in scoring, and 18th in blocked shots per game. He was recently named one of ten finalists for the prestigious Jostens Trophy and this season has earned GNAC Player of the Week eight times, ECAC Player of the week four times, and D3hoops.com Team of the Week three times. His numbers and awards speak for themselves and should win the Jostens Trophy.  Lasell was able to secure the number one seed for the New England ECAC’s, but once again they came up short and lost in the semi-finals to Becker College.  Never the less the Lasers are not only losing four great players, but they are losing four great guys!
