GNAC Intern, SJC Junior Sarah Comtois Selected to D3 CoSIDA Student Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WINTHROP, Mass. – Saint Joseph’s College of Maine junior student-athlete Sarah Comtois, who was named as the GNAC Social Media & Championship Specialist intern last month, has been selected to attend the 2017 NCAA Division III CoSIDA Student Program.

Both the GNAC office and the SJC Athletics Department are excited to see Comtois as a participant in the inaugural program June 11-13 in conjunction with the CoSIDA Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla.

"I am very excited at the opportunity to be selected to this program in its first year and attend CoSIDA this June," said Comtois.

The CoSIDA Student Program will allow the selected students to participate in Division III Day, be exposed to the CoSIDA convention, its members and the athletics communication profession. Grant recipients will attend welcome and debrief meetings and be assigned a mentor. The goal is to build the pipeline in an effort to ultimately diversify the Division III athletics communication landscape.

Comtois was hired as the GNAC intern in February 2017 through the NCAA Division III Diversity Funding Grant, as the conference office continues its ongoing efforts to support diversity and inclusion by providing professional opportunities within the college athletics industry.

In her role with the GNAC, Comtois assists GNAC Assistant Commissioner Michael Ghika with the conference’s social media efforts. On campus at SJC, the Lowell, Mass. native works in the Sports Information office under Corey McCarthy.

She currently serves as a New Media intern with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League and has also interned for the Nashua Silver Knights, a summer collegiate baseball organization.

On the field, Comtois was a 2016 All-GNAC Second Team selection as a junior after registering seven goals and five helpers for 19 points last fall. A New Media Communications major, she was also a 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District choice and is a Saint Joseph's SAAC member.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
