Lasell's Emily Machado Voted GNAC Sports Information Director of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEWTON, Mass. – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced that Lasell College sports information director Emily Machado has been named the 2016 GNAC Sports Information Director of the Year following a vote of the conference’s SIDs. The 2015-16 academic year was Machado’s first full year at Lasell after she returned to her alma mater in November of 2014.

“This recognition is well deserved,” said Lasell College Director of Athletics Kristy Walter. “Emily has been a great addition to our athletic department. She launched our newly redesigned website this year, and has greatly increased our social media presence, giving our programs more visibility and recognition.”

Under Machado’s direction the Lasell athletic department launched its website redesign in the winter, debuted its department wide SnapChat account and dramatically increased their content and engagement on all their social media platforms. Machado helped guide the transition to Stretch Internet for live web-streaming and began adding play-by-play and color commentary to some of the home game broadcasts.

“I am extremely humbled to receive this honor among such a talented and hardworking group of SIDs” said Machado. “I'd also like to thank the coaches, administrators and most importantly our student-athletes at Lasell for making this opportunity possible.”

A 2013 graduate of Lasell, Machado came back to the Commonwealth Ave. campus following a year-long stint as the assistant sports information director at Becker College. A three-time GNAC champion as a member of the women’s soccer program during her undergraduate days, Machado is able to draw on her own history of living the Lasell student-athlete experience as she finds new and more exciting ways to promote the athletes achievements.
