
GNAC Rookies of the Week: October 20

Samantha Andazola (Women’s Volleyball, Emmanuel College), Bethany Casey (Women’s Soccer, Norwich University), Will Daniels (Men’s Soccer, Mount Ida College), Taylor Dey (Women’s Tennis, Emmanuel College), Grace Johnson (Women’s X-Country, Johnson & Wales) and Matthew Scully (Men’s X-Country, Lasell) have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookies of the Week.
Men’s X-Country- Matthew Scully, Lasell College,
Watertown, Conn.
Earning Rookie of the Week four times thus far, Matthew Scully
placed 34th overall at Franklin Park during Emmanuel’s
Invitational this past weekend. He recorded a time of 28:18:05 and
was the fifth GNAC runner to finish the race.
Men’s Soccer- Will Daniels, Mount Ida College,
Bethany, Conn.
Mount Ida standout freshman forward Will Daniels recorded two
goals for Mustangs, including the game winner, and played extremely
well offensively in the 4-2 GNAC victory over Norwich.
Women’s X-Country, Grace Johnson, Johnson &
Wales University, Attleboro, Mass.
Johnson & Wales sophomore Grace Johnson, recorded a time of
22:07 and finished in 34th place to help lead the Wildcats to a
sixth place finish at Emmanuel College’s Invitational.
Women’s Soccer- Bethany Casey, Norwich University,
Point-Claire, Que.
Freshman Bethany Casey lead Norwich to a stunning 3-0-0 week,
including a pair of conference victories. Native of Point-Claire,
Quebec, Casey, was a goal scoring machine this week. Casey tallied
one goal in Norwich's 3-1 victory at Lyndon State on Thursday, and
netted two goals and picked up one assist in the Cadets' 4-0 win at
GNAC rival Lasell on Saturday.
Women’s Tennis- Taylor Dey, Emmanuel College,
Woodbridge, Conn.
Emmanuel College freshman, Taylor Dey, finished her regular season
record to 11-1 in her 1st singles position for the Saints. Dey went
3-1 in singles this week. After suffering her only loss to Simmons
College, she came back to defeat her JWU opponent in three sets,
2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Women’s Volleyball- Samantha Andazola, Emmanuel
College, Queen Creek, AZ
The Saints’ sweep another sport with Freshman Samantha
Andazola, from Queen Creek AZ. Andazola averaged an incredible 5.00
digs per set this week to lead Emmanuel's defense. The rookie
totaled 55 digs in her 11 sets played, while also serving up 7
aces
on the week.
