
GNAC Players of the Week: October 13

Jeremy Allen (Men’s Cross Country, St. Joseph’s (ME)),
Meghan Crozier (Women’s Volleyball, Lasell), Eric Dabdoub
(Men’s Soccer, Emerson), Brooke MacKenzie (Women’s
Soccer, Simmons), Maile Macleod (Women’s Tennis, Simmons),
Katie Murphy (Women’s Cross Country, St. Joseph’s
(ME)), and Bryan Picinisco (Men’s Golf, Rhode Island College)
have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Players of the
Week. Will Pike (Men’s Soccer, St. Joseph’s (ME)) and
Elizabeth Stickley (Women’s Soccer, Lasell) were named
Goalkeepers of the Week for the second week in a row.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Men’s Cross Country - Jeremy Allen, St.
Joseph’s (Maine), Sr., Rutland, Vt.
Allen led the Monks and placed 13th overall with a time of 29:48
at the 8K Runnin' Monks Invitational at Saint Joseph's College on
October 10, while his team finished in 6th place with 172 points.
The Monks next meet is October 17 at the State of Maine
Championships at Colby College.
Women’s Volleyball - Meghan Crozier, Lasell, So.,
Ballston Spa, N.Y.
Crozier’s 24 assists and 8 digs per match at the Union
College Invitational earned her All-Tournament team honors this
past weekend. Crozier totaled 124 assists, 47 digs, and 7 aces over
the week. The Lasers next face non-conference opponent Rhode Island
College tonight. Lasell is currently tied for 3rd place in the
GNAC, with a conference record of 3-2 and an overall record of
6-16.
Men’s Soccer - Eric Dabdoub, Emerson, Jr., Monterrey,
Mexico.
Dabdoub scored four straight goals in Emerson’s 5-3
conference win over Suffolk University on October 10. Dabdoub leads
the Lions offense with 12 goals and 3 assists. Dabdoub ranks 1st in
the GNAC in points (27), points per game (2.25), goals (12), and
goals per game (1.00). Emerson is in 4th place in the GNAC, with a
conference record of 4-3-0 and an overall record of 6-6-0. The
Lions will travel to New Hampshire to take on Daniel Webster
College on October 15.
Women’s Soccer - Brooke MacKenzie, Simmons, Jr., Mansfield,
Mass.
MacKenzie helped the Sharks to a 2-0 week in GNAC conference
action. The junior midfield/forward scored both goals to lift
Simmons to a 2-1 victory over Norwich on October 7, and notched
another two goals in Simmons' 5-2 victory over Albertus Magnus on
October 10. MacKenzie leads the Sharks offense with 10 goals and 2
assists. She also is ranked 2nd in the GNAC in shots (81) and 1st
in shots per game (6.75). Simmons is in 4th place in the GNAC, with
a conference record of 5-1-2 and an overall record of 7-4-2. The
Sharks next face off against the Emerson Lions on October 14. This
is the second time this season that MacKenzie has been named as a
GNAC Player of the Week. She was previously honored on September
7.
Women’s Tennis - Maile Macleod, Simmons, Jr.,
Carlsbad, Calif.
Macleod had victories at #2 singles against NESCAC foe Wesleyan
University on October 10 and at #1 doubles versus GNAC opponent
Suffolk University on October 7. Simmons is in first place in the
GNAC, undefeated in conference play (7-0), and has an overall
record of 9-6. The Sharks next match is against Emmanuel on October
14, their last test before the New England Women’s
Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) and GNAC Championship.
This is the second time this season that Macleod has been named as
a GNAC Player of the Week. She was previously honored on September
22.
Women’s Cross Country - Katie Murphy, St. Joseph’s
(Maine), Jr., Baileyville, Maine.
Murphy paced the Monks and placed 7th overall with a 22:05 effort
at the 5K Runnin' Monks Invitational at Saint Joseph's College on
October 10, while her team finished in 4th place with 126 points.
Murphy is listed 5th overall with a time of 20:35 on the St.
Joe’s Women’s Cross Country “All Damm
Team,” composed of SJC runners who earned top 30 times during
Head Coach Tom Damm’s tenure at SJC (’92-’94,
’98-present). The Monks next meet is October 17 at the State
of Maine Championships at Colby College.
Men’s Golf - Bryan Picinisco, Rhode Island College,
Jr., Dartmouth, Mass.
Picinisco shot a 74 (T-2nd overall) and lead the Anchormen to the
program’s first-ever invitational title at the Rhode Island
College Fall Invitational on October 9. Picinisco shot an 86 and
finished T-38th overall at the Bison Invitational on October 11,
where the Anchormen finished 7th. Picinisco and RIC return to the
green to face Mitchell College on October 14, before heading into
the NEIGA and GNAC Championships next week. Last year RIC finished
in 2nd place at the GNAC Championship with a 648, 26 points behind
2008 conference champion Johnson & Wales.
GOALKEEPERS OF THE WEEK
Men’s Soccer - Will Pike, St. Joseph’s
(Maine), Sr., Gorham, Maine
Pike made four saves, including a pair of huge plays in the waning
minutes, in a 1-0 shutout victory over Norwich on October 10. The
victory marks Pike’s second shutout in a row and sixth
overall this season. The senior goalkeeper leads the GNAC in save
percentage (.860), goals against average (.960), and shutouts. The
Monks are currently in 3rd place in the GNAC, with a conference
record of 4-2 and an overall record of 7-5-1. The Monks next battle
Mount Ida on October 17. This is the second week in a row and third
time this season that Pike has been named as a GNAC Player of the
Week. He was previously honored on October 6 and September 15.
Women’s Soccer - Elizabeth Stickley, Lasell, So.,
Mashpee, Mass.
Stickley played a tremendous game in the net for Lasell against
Emerson in a 3-1 victory on October 10. Stickley made great plays
throughout the contest, shutting down multiple 1-on-1 attempts by
challenging Emerson early. The sole goal scored against Stickley in
the contest was on the second penalty kick of the day. The Lasers
are currently in 7th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of
4-1-2 and an overall record of 5-3-2. Stickley leads the GNAC in
goals against average (1.24), and is 4th among GNAC goaltenders
with a .818 save percentage. This is the second week in a row that
Stickley has been named as a GNAC Player of the Week. The Lasers
next play Norwich during Lasell’s Family, Friends, &
Alumni Weekend & Senior Day on October 17.
