GNAC Players of the Week: October 6

Caprice Capacci (Women’s Cross Country, Emerson), Ashley Constantino (Women’s Volleyball, Johnson & Wales), Megan Harrington (Women’s Tennis, Emmanuel), Jamal Howard (Men’s Soccer, Albertus Magnus), Bobby Newcomb (Men’s Golf, Johnson & Wales), Greg Redfield (Men’s Cross Country, Johnson & Wales), Samantha Reynolds (Women’s Soccer, Johnson & Wales), Jenna Ross (Women’s Volleyball, Emmanuel) and Lauren Zaniboni (Women’s Volleyball), have been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Players of the Week. Will Pike (Men’s Soccer, St. Joseph’s (ME)) and Elizabeth Stickley (Women’s Soccer, Lasell) were named Goalkeepers of the Week.

 

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Women’s Cross Country - Caprice Capacci, Emerson, Fr., Medfield, Mass.

Capacci finished 27th overall and was the top GNAC finisher by 13 places out of 290 runners at the Pop Crowell Invitational.

Women’s Volleyball - Ashley Constantino, Johnson & Wales, Jr., Marlton, N.J.
Constantino was named to the All-Tournament team for the JWU Fall Classic, averaging 3.11 kills and 3.68 digs per game to lead her squad to a 3rd place finish. JWU is currently in 3rd place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 10-12.

Women’s Tennis - Megan Harrington, Emmanuel, Jr., Leicester, Mass.

Harrington went undefeated in match play at 3rd singles and 2nd doubles for Emmanuel. Her 6-1, 6-0 win over Emerson at 3rd singles and her 8-2 win at 2nd doubles helped the Saints win two points in a 5-4 loss to the Lions on September 30. The Emmanuel Women’s Tennis team is currently in 3rd place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 8-2.

Men’s Soccer - Jamal Howard, Albertus Magnus, So., West Haven, Conn.
Howard scored the game winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Norwich on October 3. Albertus Magnus is currently in 7th place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 2-2 and an overall record of 6-4-1.

Men’s Golf - Bobby Newcomb, Johnson & Wales, Sr., Quincy, Mass.

Newcomb tied for second with a two round total of 148 at the ECAC Division III New England Championship, leading the JWU to a 3rd place finish at the 14 team event. Newcomb was tied for the lead individually after the first round of play, carding a 72 after 18 holes.

Men’s Cross Country - Greg Redfield, Johnson & Wales, Fr., Penfield, N.Y.
Redfield paced the Wildcats, running a time of 26:31 at the Pop Crowell Invitational, leading Johnson & Wales to a second place finish in the 24 team field. This is the second time this season that Redfield has been named as a GNAC Player of the Week. The freshman phenom was previously honored on Sept. 22.

Women’s Soccer - Samantha Reynolds, Johnson & Wales, So., Plymouth, Mass.
Reynolds helped JGW to a 6-2 win over Suffolk in conference play, scoring four goals in a 22 minute stretch. Reynolds also scored the Wildcat’s lone goal in a loss against No. 14 Amherst. Johnson & Wales is currently in 3rd place in the GNAC, with a conference record of 4-1 and an overall record of 7-2.

Women’s Volleyball - Jenna Ross, Emmanuel, So., Centerburg, Ohio
Ross’s outside hitting led Emmanuel to an undefeated 5-0 week, averaging 2.07 kills, 2.87 digs, and 0.8 aces per set. Ross hit .253 in those matches and is currently leading the Saints, who are on a nine-match winning streak. The Saints are currently in 1st place in the GNAC, undefeated in conference play (6-0), and have an overall record of 10-4.

Women’s Volleyball - Lauren Zaniboni, Emerson, Jr., San Diego, Calif.
Zaniboni hit .329 in a 3-1 week, including GNAC wins over St. Joseph and Lasell. The Emerson junior also amassed 61 kills, 20 blocks, and 41 digs in that span. The Lions are currently in 2nd place in the GNAC, undefeated in conference play (5-0), and have an overall record of 15-4.

GOALKEEPERS OF THE WEEK

Men’s Soccer - Will Pike, St. Joseph’s (ME), Sr., Gorham, Maine
Pike earned his 5th shutout of the season, making eight saves in a 2-0 victory over Emerson on October 4. This is the second time this season that Pike has been named as a GNAC Player of the Week. He was previously honored on Sept. 15.

Women’s Soccer - Elizabeth Stickley, Lasell, So., Mashpee, Mass.
Stickley made nine saves this week, leading the Lasers to a 2-1 win over GNAC opponent St. Joseph’s (CT). The sophomore goaltender allowed just one goal for a .900 save percentage.
