
Emerson College Softball Team Named National Academic Champion
The 2009 Emerson College Softball team has been named by the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association as the Division III National Academic
Champion by virtue of its cumulative 3.531 grade point average.
This is the second time in the past three years that the Lions have
earned the top spot.
Emerson edged out Peidmont College (Demorest, Ga.) for the top
honor. The Piedmont team compiled a 3.530.
Emerson was also the 2007 Division III National Academic Champion.
The squad finished fourth in the 2008 rankings.
In addition to the academic honor, the team compiled a 33-11
record, defeated two nationally ranked teams, won the Great
Northeast Athletic Conference championship, and competed in the
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III National
Championship Tournament.
