Baseball Falls to UMF on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 28, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against UMaine-Farmington on senior day at Kelsey Field Sunday afternoon. The Beavers won 4-0 and 8-7.

UMaine-Farmington improves to 12-21. The Beavers have earned a spot in the North Atlantic Conference postseason, which will take place next week. Colby-Sawyer goes to 6-27. The Chargers will conclude the season at home tomorrow with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against Johnson & Wales.

GAME ONE – UMF 4, CSC 0

The Beavers turned a couple of Colby-Sawyer miscues into four unearned runs to win the day's first game, 4-0.

UMF got the scoring started in the third with a first and third double-steal situation that saw Troy Johnson (Oxford, Maine) came home from third on a throwing error.

The Beavers then plated three in the sixth on an RBI single from Derek Bowen (Benton, Maine) and a two-run single by Johnson.

UMF Gavin Arsenault (Dixfield, Maine) threw a six-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to earn his second win of the year.

First-year Derek Griffin (Lebanon, N.H.) took the loss for Colby-Sawyer, but went the distance and surrendered the four unearned runs on seven hits.

Johnson ended the game with a 3-for-3 effort at the dish for UMF.

AJ Cavossa (Foxborough, Mass.) led the Chargers with a pair of hits in three at-bats.
