24-Point Second Quarter Propels Women's Basketball Past Dean, 58-42

FRANKLIN, Mass. - December 8, 2018 - Colby-Sawyer junior Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) returned to the lineup on Saturday to post her fourth double-double in five games with game-highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds to lift the women's basketball team past Dean, 58-42. 

Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-3 and will play a pair of home games next week to conclude the first semester. Dean drops to 4-7. 

Sugars went 9-of-16 from the floor to reach 20+ points for the second time this season. Junior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) filled the stat sheet once again with 11 points, 12 assists, six rebounds and five steals. Senior Tanisha Clark (Bridgeport, Conn.) added six points and five rebounds in nine minutes.  

Dean was led by a 19-point, 11-rebound effort from Iindia Pina. Nicole Romero was second on the team with eight points, while Jamaya Cleveland brought down nine boards.  

After a sluggish first quarter that saw the Chargers score just four points and trail 18-4 at the end of 10 minutes, Colby-Sawyer rebounded nicely with an impressive turnaround in the second frame. The Chargers shot 62.5% in the second half and made 10 baskets after converting 2-of-17 in the first. On the flip side, Dean made 6-of-14 in the first and was held to 2-of-12 in the second giving Colby-Sawyer a 28-22 lead at the break. 

Colby-Sawyer expanded its advantage with a 12-8 margin in the third quarter and secure the victory with an 18-12 difference in the fourth. 

The Chargers shot 41%, while holding the Bulldogs to 27.4% including 1-of-17 from beyond the arc. Colby-Sawyer turned 20 Dean miscues into 22 points.
