Chargers Fall to Johnson & Wales on Senior Day

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 20, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales, 15-6, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales pushes its win streak to five to improve to 12-4 overall and remain unbeaten in conference action at 10-0. The Wildcats will conclude the regular season on Wednesday at Regis. Colby-Sawyer falls to 10-5 overall and 7-4 in the GNAC. The Chargers will play a non-conference game on Wednesday at New England College before the GNAC postseason begins on Saturday.

Prior to today's game, Colby-Sawyer honored its three seniors for their years of dedication and contribution to the women's lacrosse program. Bethany Fennessey (Windham, N.H.), Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) and Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) were recognized.

Johnson & Wales received seven goals and a pair of assists from the conference's leading scorer, senior Allison Pazienski (New Hyde, N.Y.). Sophomore Dani Lydecker (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) added three goals, an assist, and a game-high seven draw controls. Junior Maria Patane (Greenwich, N.Y.) contributed two goals, two assists, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Schuster and sophomore Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) had two goals apiece to lead the Chargers. Schuster added three caused turnovers. Junior Grace Vosburgh (Ludlow, Vt.) and sophomore Jess Tattersall (Keene, N.H.) each added a goal. Ireland posted three assists to give her 28 for the second, which is tied for second most in a season. Sophomore Madison Johansson (Stratham, N.H.) picked up a team best five ground balls, while Fennessey added two ground balls.

JWU goalie Cassidy O'Hara (Mashpee, Mass.) eclipsed 200 career saves with four in today's win. Colby-Sawyer junior goalie Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) finished with 10 saves.

The visitors controlled the action in the first half and led 9-1 after 30 minutes. The Wildcats outshot Colby-Sawyer 16-6 and converted both of their free position attempts. Pazienski had four goals in the first half.

After a goal from Johnson & Wales' Kathy Esnor (St. Louis, Mo.) opened the scoring in the second half, Colby-Sawyer found its stride and scored three-straight goals to cut the deficit to 10-4 with 22:06 left to play. Neither team found the back of the net for the next eight minutes until JWU put two on the board in a 1:31 span to increase its advantage to 12-4. The Wildcats would add three more goals in the final six minutes, sandwiched around a pair of tallies by Sarah Morin, to make the final 15-6.
