NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 24, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team defeated Simmons University, 1-0, in Wednesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season finale.
Colby-Sawyer extends its program record win streak to seven-straight and moves its program record win total to 13-4. Today's win was also the program's first against Simmons in seven meetings, dating back to 2011. The Chargers have secured a GNAC first-round tournament game as the third seed and will host sixth seed Anna Maria on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Simmons falls to 6-11 overall and 4-3 in the GNAC standings. The Sharks have earned the fourth seed in the GNAC Tournament and will host fifth seed Johnson & Wales on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The first half did not see many scoring chances as most of the action occurred between the 25-yard lines. The Chargers did have a 3-0 advantage in shots, but did not score.
The lone goal of the contest came at 49:02 when Colby-Sawyer junior
Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) sent the ball across the front of the goal to teammate
Hadley Woodfin (Marblehead, Mass.) who one-timed the game-winner into the right side of the cage. The goal was Woodfin's first of the season.

Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) had four saves and moved into a tie for first in career victories with Jodi Dumayne '16 with 21. Simmons goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) also had four saves.
Each team took six shots, while Colby-Sawyer held a 7-5 edge in penalty corners.
