FITCHBURG, Mass. - September 5, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey is off to the best start in program history after Wednesday's 3-1 victory at Fitchburg State. 

The Chargers improve to 3-0, with all three wins coming on the road, to record the most wins in the first three games of a season. Colby-Sawyer will begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday, once again on the road, at Lasell. Fitchburg State falls to 0-2. Today's win is also the first against the Falcons in three all-time meetings. 

Colby-Sawyer dominated the first half and did not allow a Fitchburg State shot. The Chargers finished with nine in the frame. Sophomore Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) scored the lone goal of the half in the 11th minute of action. 

The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Chargers until a flurry of action occurred midway through the second half. Colby-Sawyer doubled its lead to 2-0 off the stick of senior Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) at 56:35. The Falcons responded less than two minutes later on a goal from Aislinn DeHorsey to cut the deficit in half. 

Seconds later, junior Rachel Fisher (Lynn, Mass.) got the insurance goal back for Colby-Sawyer to make the score 3-1. 

Colby-Sawyer outshot Fitchburg State 18-3 and had a 10-2 advantage in penalty corners.  

Sophomore Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) earned the win with two saves. Abby Bryant was saddled with the loss for the Falcons with 10 saves and three goals allowed in 63 minutes.
