Field Hockey Earns First Win over UMF, 3-2, in Overtime

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 7, 2018 – Colby-Sawyer field hockey senior Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) scored 6:05 into the first overtime session to lift the Chargers over UMaine-Farmington, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. Today's win is the first for Colby-Sawyer against the Beavers in eight tries.

Colby-Sawyer, which is 4-0 in overtime games this season, improves to 10-4 to reach double-digit wins for the second time in the last three seasons. The Chargers will celebrate senior day next Saturday at noon against Becker.  UMaine-Farmington falls to 1-9 and will travel to Bates on Tuesday.

The game was a tale of two halves with each team controlling play for 35 minutes. Colby-Sawyer owned the first half and scored a pair of goals on nine shots, while UMF was held to just three shots. Junior Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) put the Chargers on top with her team leading 10th goal of the season, 10 minutes into the game.

Colby-Sawyer earned a penalty corner as the first half buzzer sounded, but kept the play going. Teixeira scored her first of the game to give the home team a 2-0 lead at the break.

UMF controlled the possession in the second half and held a 7-1 advantage in shots. Sophomore Kasey Talarico (Lewiston, Maine) cut the two-goal deficit in half when she evaded the goalie and scored into the right side of the cage.

The Beavers found the equalizer in the 49th minute when Talarico set up her teammate Chloe Horn (Arlington, Mass.) with her first collegiate goal.

In overtime, the play went up and down the field with each side getting scoring chances. Teixeira used a reverse shot to notch her second overtime game-winner of the season.

Colby-Sawyer goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) finished with a pair of saves, while senior Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) and sophomore Lauryn Masse (Loudon, N.H.) contributed a defensive save. UMF goalie Grace DiMarco (Uxbridge, Mass.) kept the Beavers in the game with seven saves.
