Alie Jones Scores Overtime Game-Winner Against Rivier

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 22, 2018 – For the second time this season, junior Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) scored a game-winning overtime goal, today in double overtime, to lift the Colby-Sawyer field hockey team to a 3-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Rivier.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC. The Chargers will travel to intrastate foe New England College on Wednesday. Rivier drops to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference action. The Raiders host Framingham State on Thursday.

Colby-Sawyer senior Colleen Burke (Orange, Mass.) opened the scoring, less than two minutes into the game, with her first goal of the season off a feed from sophomore Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.).

Rivier didn't waste much time to tie the game, scoring four minutes later. First-year Maegan Sheehy (Sabattus, Maine) found the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season. Junior Jaclyn Fraser (Wilmington, Mass.) was credited with the assist.

The Chargers went back in front in the 16th minute when junior Rachel Fisher (Lynn, Mass.) converted a pass from senior Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.).

Colby-Sawyer took a 2-1 lead into halftime and had a 7-1 advantage in shots.

Rivier's leading scorer, Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) notched her fifth goal of the season to tie the game with less than three minutes in regulation.

After neither team could score in the first overtime session, Teixeira found the stick of Jones who recorded her second game-winner of the season, 1:54 into the second frame. Jones is now the program's all-time leader in goals with 28.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) made one save in the win. Senior Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) finished with seven saves in the loss.
