Field Hockey Falls to Simmons, 2-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 6, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell to Simmons College, 2-0 in nonconference action on Tuesday afternoon.

Simmons improves to 9-3 and will travel to Mount Holyoke on Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest. Colby-Sawyer drops to 6-6 and will resume North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday with a 7 p.m. game at Castleton.

The Sharks, who were chosen to win the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for the second straight season, scored a goal in each half and earned their eighth shutout of the season.

Sophomore Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) put the visitors on the board in the 11th minute when she finished a through ball sent from sophomore teammate Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.).

Saltamartini doubled the Sharks' lead at 48:36 when she scored in traffic to give her a team best 11 goals on the season.

Junior goalie Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) made a pair of saves, while freshman Analise Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.) was credited with a defensive save for the Sharks. Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) had 10 stops for the Chargers.

Colby-Sawyer freshman Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) led the team with three shots and two on goal. 

Simmons finished the game with a 15-6 advantage in shots, while each team took eight penalty corners.
