Saints Split on Day 3 Action at NTC Spring Games
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Emmanuel College softball team opened Day 3 action at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. with a 7-1 victory over Dominican University (Ill.) before falling in their second contest of the day to Mount Union College, 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Dominican)
- Senior second baseman Kerry Sendrick (Medway, Mass.) got Emmanuel on the board with a solo blast to right center in the first inning to put the Saints on top, 1-0.
- Sophomore first baseman Grace Orcutt (Lexington, Mass.) followed suit in the fourth with a solo shot to center to bump the lead to 2-0.
- The Saints then exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away as first year third baseman Maegan Amsler (Hanover, Mass.) and first year outfielder Julyanne Pacheco (Somerset, Mass.) registered back-to-back RBI singles to make it 4-0 before senior designated player Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to make it 7-0.
- DU catcher Candace Kipp helped the Stars avoid the shutout connecting on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to account for the 7-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- EC first year hurler Tianna Dawe (Lynn, Mass.) went the distance allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four to improve to 2-1 on the year.
- Allyson Dilday suffered the loss for the Stars, going 5.0 innings and allowing all seven runs on eight hits while striking out four.
- Ramirez-Tejeda finished her season-debut going 2-3 at the plate with three RBI while Sendrick, Amsler and sophomore shortstop Renae Lacroix (Cumberand, R.I.) all collected two hits in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Mount Union)
- Following three scoreless innings, Emmanuel got on the board first with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Ramirez-Tejeda opened the scoring with an infield single that plated sophomore Abigail Conley () to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, EC made it 2-0 with a double-steal as Ramirez-Tejeda swiped second and Amsler stole home to make it a two-run cushion.
- The lead held up until the sixth inning when Mount Union broke into the scoring column, cutting Emmanuel's lead in half with an RBI single by Maggie Dominick to make it 2-1.
- The Saints were one-out away from their third victory of the season but the Raiders had other plans as Maddie Pidgeon blasted a bases-clearing 3-RBI double to give Mount Union its first lead of the afternoon at 4-2.
- EC got one game back in the bottom half of the inning on a solo blast by Ramirez-Tejeda but the Raiders closed the door to hold on for the 4-3 come-from-behind win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Ramirez-Tejeda wrapped the second game going 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
- EC junior hurler Megan Long (Greenville, R.I.) pitched well in defeat, going 6 2/3 innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out three before giving way to Dawe who got the final out for Emmanuel.
- Ashley Cascio improved to 2-0 on the year for Mount Union, going the distance and allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out two.
