Five Chargers Score Double Digits in 94-83 Win at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - February 13, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team won its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season finale at Norwich by a score of 94-83 Wednesday evening. 

Colby-Sawyer improves to 13-11 overall and finishes its first season in the GNAC at 7-4. The Chargers will play one more game on Saturday at Saint Joseph's (Maine) that does not count towards conference standings. The GNAC postseason will begin next week. Norwich falls to 6-18 overall and 0-10 in the GNAC. The Cadets wrap up the season at home against Rivier on Saturday.  

Junior Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.) led the Chargers with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) scored 19 and grabbed nine rebounds. He moved into sixth in career rebounding with 669 boards, passing Peter Donato '16. Senior Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) registered 18 points. He moved into seventh in career three-pointers with 174 and ninth in made field goals with 525. Sophomore Jake Carrier (Manchester, N.H.) and first-year Terrence Harvey Jr. (Smyrna, Ga.) added 11 points apiece to account for the five Chargers in double figures. 

Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) led the way for Norwich with 27 points and a 10-of-11 performance from the free throw line. Daniel Haimes scored 19 points, while Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) added 17 points and nine rebounds. 

Jake Carrier scored 11 of the team's 15 points in the first 3:12 of the game to stake the Chargers to a 15-3 lead. Colby-Sawyer was able to hold a comfortable lead for much of the half, before the home team put together a 9-2 run to end the frame and cut the deficit to 42-39 at the break. Colby-Sawyer was 42.1% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc. Norwich did damage at the foul line making 12-of-16 attempts.

Haimes hit a trey for Norwich to tie the game in the opening seconds of the second half. The game went back-and-forth for the next several minutes with most of the action coming at the free throw line. The two teams combined to take 46 free throws in the second half. The game was tied at 71-71 with 6:52 to play, when Colby-Sawyer used a 10-0 run, capped by a Dana Bean three-point play. The Chargers held off a comeback by the Cadets by converting enough free throws to secure the 94-83 victory. 

Colby-Sawyer was 27-of-39 from the free throw line, while Norwich made 21-of-28. The Chargers held a 40-36 edge in rebounding.
