Jordan Teixeira’s Goal Lifts Chargers to 1-0 Win over Rivier

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 30, 2015 – Colby-Sawyer freshman Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) scored the lone goal of the game to lift the field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Rivier University on a cool and damp Wednesday afternoon.

The Chargers improve to 6-4 and will resume North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday at Thomas College at 1:00 p.m. Rivier drops to 2-8 and resumes Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Johnson & Wales on Saturday at noon.

The first half was evenly played throughout with Colby-Sawyer taking seven shots and Rivier taking five.

The Raiders had a chance to get on the board midway through the first stanza when freshman Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) took a shot that went past the Colby-Sawyer goalie. Fortunately for the Chargers, senior Becca Hashem (Webster, N.H.) kept the game scoreless with an impressive defensive save.

The eventual game-winning goal came off the stick of freshman Jordan Teixeira at 48:14. She was able to gain control of the ball in a group of players in front of the cage and deposit the shot into the left side of the goal for her fourth tally of the season.

Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) made six saves and earned her fourth shutout of the season. Rivier goalie Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) played well for the Raiders and made seven saves.

The Chargers finished with a slim 15-12 edge in shots and a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners.
