NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 24, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Castleton, 7-4, on Wednesday afternoon.
Castleton, now of the Little East Conference, improves to 15-16. The Spartans travel to Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday for a conference doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Colby-Sawyer falls to 6-24. The Chargers will host NVU-Lyndon tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. for a single game.
Castleton received a 2-for-5 effort at the plate from Dylan Bailey (Waterbury, Vt.). He added two RBI and a run. Seven other Spartans recorded a hit. Seniors Deagan Poland (Williston, Vt.) and Pat Mumford (Fairbanks, Alaska) each had a hit and scored two runs.

Brendan Barrett (Nashua, N.H.) was one of four Chargers with two hits on the day. He also scored two runs. Sophomore
Danny McCrystal (Londonderry, N.H.) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore
Alec Burns (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) and senior
Austin Butler (Saunderstown, R.I.) each finished 2-for-4. Sophomore
Charlie Danaher (Guilford, Conn.) knocked in a pair of runs.
The Chargers put two across in the first frame on a single by Danaher.
Castleton scored four times in the top of the third with the big hit coming off the bat of Bailey. With the bases loaded, Bailey hit a double to right field to knock in a pair.
Colby-Sawyer got a run back in the bottom half of the third to cut the deficit to 4-3. McCrystal singled in Barrett.
In the fifth inning, Castleton's leading hitter Davis Mikell (Williston, Vt.) singled home Mumford and Poland later scored on a wild pitch. Colby-Sawyer also scored once in the frame on an RBI groundout from
AJ Cavossa (Foxborough, Mass.).
Castleton tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to secure the 6-4 victory.
First-year Zack Marlow (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) was credited with the win with three strong innings of relief. He allowed one run on one hit and struck out three. Sophomore Andy Kenosh (Rutland, Vt.) earned the save with two scoreless innings in the 8th and 9th.
Senior
Ryan Glendye (Litchfield, N.H.) was saddled with the loss after three innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on three hits. Junior
Tim Unczur (Danvers, Mass.) tossed the final two innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three.
