Unczur Tosses 2nd CG Shutout of Season as Chargers Split with Lasell

WALTHAM, Mass. - March 25, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team split with Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) season opening doubleheader for both teams. Lasell won the first game 5-2, while Colby-Sawyer took game two 4-0. 

Colby-Sawyer goes to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Chargers will travel to Pine Manor on Thursday for a single 9-inning game with the Gators. Lasell is 9-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 

GAME ONE - LASELL 5, COLBY-SAWYER 2

The home team got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout by David Marsell. 

Colby-Sawyer tied the game in the top of the second on an AJ Cavossa groundout. 

The Lasers retook the lead in the bottom of the second when Rob Cutone hit a sac fly to left that scored Harrison Silva. 

In the fifth, Lasell plated three runs to take a 5-1 lead. Evan Michalek, Marsell, and Brett Sherron each had an RBI in the inning. 

The Chargers got one back in the sixth on a Brendan Barrett groundout, but that would be the final run of the game as Lasell won 5-2. 

Michalek and Sihvonen had two hits apiece for the Lasers. 

Danny McCrystal had both of the Chargers' hits. 

Zach Handzel struck out 10 and gave up one earned run on two hits to earn the complete game victory for Lasell. 

Ryan Glendye suffered the loss for the Chargers. He went the distance and allowed just three earned runs on six hits and struck out five. For Glendye, today's complete game gave him nine for his career to rank t-9th all-time with Ryan Gillan '12. 

GAME TWO - COLBY-SAWYER 4, LASELL 0

Tim Unczur threw his second complete game shutout of the season to lead the Chargers to the game two victory. He struck out seven Lasers and gave up just two hits.

The Chargers got off to a hot start in their first at-bat and scored three times. Charlie Danaher knocked in a pair with a single to right and later came around on a Kristian Viljanen RBI single to center. 

Unczur helped his own cause in the top of the seventh with an RBI single that scored Austin Butler to put Colby-Sawyer on top 4-0. 

Unczur and Brendan Barrett had two hits apiece to lead the Chargers. 

Dan Petr pitched six innings of relief for Lasell and gave up one run and struck out nine. David Marsell suffered the loss with three runs in an inning of work.
