NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Senior
Seema Samawi (New York City, N.Y./King's Academy) and sophomore
Margaret Anne Smith (Spring Lake, N.J./High Technology) each earned victories in singles play, but Simmons College picked up the team win with a 7-2 victory Sunday.
The Sharks (14-2) won all three doubles matches to race out to a 3-0 lead. Smith got the Pioneers on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rachael Downey at No. 3 singles. The sophomore from Spring Lake, N.J. improves to 9-4 in singles play this season with the win.
Samawi followed with her third straight win, defeating Caroline Khoury at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2. With the win, the senior from New York City, N.Y. has now won five of her last seven singles matches, and sits at 5-6 overall for the season.
Smith is scheduled to return to the court again Friday with a home match against Colby-Sawyer College at 4 p.m.
