NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 13, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team swept the Fitchburg State Falcons, 3-0, in non-conference action Thursday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-13.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-4. The Chargers travel to Worcester State on Saturday for a tri-match against the Lancers and Western New England. Fitchburg State falls to 1-7 on the season. The Falcons return to their home court on Tuesday for a tri-match against Framingham State and Bay Path.
The Chargers hit .393 in the first set and held Fitchburg State to just three kills in the 25-13 victory. Colby-Sawyer also benefited from six aces, two by senior
Nicole Olivieri (Salem, N.H.). Junior
Rebecca Straubel (Altamont, N.Y.) had four kills in the set, while junior
Olivia Goodrich (Epping, N.H.) collected 12 assists. Falcons senior Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass.) had a pair of aces in the set.
Colby-Sawyer continued to click on offense in the second set to win 25-11. Freshman
Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) guided the Chargers attack with eight assists. Sophomore Paige Anderson (Winchendon, Mass.) had a pair of kills for the Falcons.
The Chargers earned the sweep by hitting over .300 once again. Colby-Sawyer freshman
Maeve Powell (Orange, Mass.) had a set-high four kills, while sophomore
Ellie Dupre (Sturbridge, Mass.) posted nine assists. Osborne added two kills for the Falcons.
