Women's Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match to Saint Joseph's

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 16, 2017 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team dropped a close 3-0 match to Saint Joseph's College of Maine, in non-conference action Monday evening. Saint Joseph's won by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-22.

The Monks even their record to 12-12 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at home on Wednesday against Norwich. Colby-Sawyer falls to 11-15 and will conclude an 8-match homestand on Wednesday against Southern Maine. The two teams will be conference opponents next season as Colby-Sawyer becomes a member of the GNAC.

Saint Joseph's received 12 kills from senior Jordynne Copp (Cumberland, Maine) and sophomore Kelsey Bickford (Somersworth, N.H.). Copp hit .312 and added four blocks. Junior setter Sarah Dyer (Seabrook, N.H.) had a double-double of 30 assists and 11 digs, while junior libero Jennelle Thompson (Farmington, N.H.) collected a team best 22 digs.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) led all players with 17 kills on .308 hitting. Junior Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.) added 16 kills and 13 digs, while senior Alli Lahiff (Haverhill, Mass.) chipped in nine kills. Sophomore setter Olivia Goodrich (Epping, N.H.) registered 39 assists, while junior Nicole Olivieri (Salem, N.H.) posted 22 digs.

The first set had five ties and four lead changes. The Chargers held their biggest lead at 15-9 after a kill from Naarah Cox. Saint Joseph's battled back and eventually tied the game at 20-20 after a Colby-Sawyer error. The set would be tied at 21, 22 and 23 before a pair of kills from Copp gave Saint Joseph's the 25-23 victory. Cox finished the first set with nine kills.

The second set mirrored the first set as the Monks came back late for a 25-23 win. Colby-Sawyer was in front 20-17 after a Lahiff kill, but Saint Joseph's knotted the set at 20-20 thanks to a Bickford kill, a Bickford ace and a Colby-Sawyer error. With the scored tied at 23-23, Copp once again finished the frame with a pair of kills to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The third set was tied at 4-4 when Saint Joseph's used a 4-0 run to force an early timeout. The Monks would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set to clinch the match 3-0.
